    Basic Addition for Kids

You will learn about “Basic Addition” in this video. When things are put together, we do addition. The sign used for addition is called “plus”. Let us first try to add 1 + 1. This is 1 mango. This is another mango. 1 mango + 1 mango is equal to 2 mangoes. So, 1 + 1 = 2.

This is 1 ant. 4 more ants have joined him. How many ants are there in total? Yes!!!, there are 5 ants. Hence, 1 + 4 = 5. Similarly, these 5 ants and these 3 ants make 8 ants. Hence, 5 + 3 = 8. Hence, addition is finding the sum or the total by combining 2 or more numbers.

    Basic Multiplication for kids

You will learn about “Basic Multiplication” in this video. Adding the same number again and again means we are multiplying. The sign used for multiplication is x.

    Let us try to multiply 2 and 3. Look at these groups of boxes. There are 3 groups of 2 boxes each. Let us first add all these boxes. Here, 2 + 2 = 4 and 4 + 2 = 6 boxes. Adding 2 three times means multiplying 2 by 3. Here, 2 + 2 + 2 = 6 thus, 2 x 3 = 6. Look at these bees. There are 5 groups of 3 bees each. How many bees are there in all? 3 + 3 is 6, 6 + 3 is 9, 9 + 3 is 12 and 12 + 3 is 15. So, adding 3 five times we get 15. Thus, 3 x 5 = 15. Hence, multiplication is also known as repeated addition.
