Foxes are small mammals with an orange coat and bushy tail.

They are native to Britain, but can now be found all over the world.

They are distant relatives with dogs and wolves,

but live in small family groups instead of packs.

And like all omnivores they can eat almost anything.

Cunning foxes are great hunters.

Carefully the fox sneaks up on it’s pray.

What a wonderful leap!

Foxes have wonderful hearing…

meaning they can listen for pray under the snow.

With another great leap,

the fox is able to hunt for mice deep in the snow.

Male foxes are called dogs.

Female foxes are called vixens.

And baby foxes are called cubs.

Foxes have comfy borrows for homes.

Here is a small cub is coming out of the her borrow.

Doesn’t she have lovely black feet and a great furry coat!

Do you know what noise a fox makes?

Well they can make several.

They can yelp, bark, growl and whine…

just like this.

Ewww that’s not a nice noise, is it!

Letter School is the app that sold me on the iPad. It really demonstrates what is possible with native apps in terms of engagement and education. The app is great for preschoolers and Kindergarteners or very early readers and writers. The app has exercises for tracing and writing capital letters, lower case letter, and numbers. There are also a few different font styles.
Common Core Standards

This is a full app preview of the Letter School iPad App. This is a great app for beginning readers. Go through the whole alphabet in upper case and lower case letters. Great animations to keep your child engaged and learning.

HOW IT WORKS
Kids learn to write letters and numbers as they play four exciting games per letter or number:

Intro – discover the shape, name and sound of all the 26 abc letters and numbers
Tap – learn where to start to write the letters and numbers and finish by tapping the dots

Lurking in shallow waters…is the amazing alligator!

Alligators can be found in North America and China.

They live in creeks, swamps and everglades.

Amazing alligators have lovely scales…webbed feet… stumpy legs… long tails… and powerful jaws.

Did you know? Alligators have a really strong bite.

But… their jaws are quite weak at opening.

This means… a human can easily hold their jaws tight.

Wow that’s impressive.

Also… alligators are reptiles. Can you name some other reptiles?

That’s right…

Lizards, snakes, turtles, tortoises and crocodiles are also reptiles.

Like all reptiles, alligators are cold blooded.

This means their blood isn’t warm like mammals.

So they love to sun bake to warm up.

Alligators and crocodiles are very similar.

Can you tell the difference?

Alligators have U-shaped jaws.

While crocodiles have longer V-shaped jaws.

Alligators are smaller than crocs, and darker in colour.

Heidi (pronounced [ˈhaɪdi]) is a work of children’s fiction published in 1881 by Swiss author Johanna Spyri, originally published in two parts as Heidi: her years of wandering and learning[1] (German: Heidis Lehr- und Wanderjahre) and Heidi : How she used what she learned.[2] (German: Heidi kann brauchen, was es gelernt hat)[3] It is a novel about the events in the life of a young girl in her grandfather’s care, in the Swiss Alps. It was written as a book “for children and those who love children” (as quoted from its subtitle).

Heidi is one of the best-selling books ever written and is among the best-known works of Swiss literature.

Heidi[6] is a girl who has been raised by her aunt Detie in Maienfeld, Switzerland after the early deaths of her parents, Tobias and Adelheid (Detie’s sister and brother-in-law). Detie brings 6-year-old Heidi to her paternal grandfather’s house, up the mountain from Dörfli. He has been at odds with the villagers and embittered against God for years and lives in seclusion on the alm. This has earned him the nickname Alm-Uncle. He briefly resents Heidi’s arrival, but the girl’s evident intelligence and cheerful yet unaffected demeanor soon earn his genuine, if reserved, affection. Heidi enthusiastically befriends her new neighbors, young Peter the goatherd, his mother, Bridget, and his blind maternal grandmother, who is “Grannie” to everyone. With each season that passes, the mountaintop inhabitants grow more attached to Heidi.

Three years later, Detie returns to take Heidi to Frankfurt to be a hired lady’s companion to a wealthy girl named Clara Sesemann, who is regarded as an invalid. The girl is charmed by Heidi’s simple friendliness, and delights in all the funny mishaps brought about by Heidi’s lack of experience with city life. However, the Sesemanns’ strict housekeeper, Fräulein Rottenmeier, views the household disruptions as wanton misbehavior, and places Heidi under more and more restraint. Soon, Heidi becomes terribly homesick, and grows alarmingly pale and thin. Her one diversion is learning to read and write, motivated by her desire to go home and read to Peter’s blind grandmother. Clara’s paternal grandmother comes to visit the children and becomes a friend to Heidi. She teaches Heidi that she can always seek relief from misery by praying to God….
